Exploring Saguenay History
For insight into local history, visit some of the villages that make up Saguenay: Val-Jalbert, a 1920s pulp-mill company town with around 40 original buildings, and L'Anse-Saint-Jean, known for its beautiful 1931 covered bridge. The Sir William Price Heritage Centre, located in a repurposed Anglican chapel, is devoted to the story of the company town of Kénogami (once called the Queen City of Paper) which was founded by Sir William Price. For a lively lesson in regional lore, there’s La Fabuleuse Histoire d'un Royaume, a grand theatrical spectacle in which hundreds of locals—including farm animals!—participate.
