When I go to Napa Valley, I like to experience smaller wineries, from the tasting rooms of Napa to the small roadside wineries of the Silverado Trail. Envy Wines, just north of Calistoga at the very northernmost part of Napa Valley, is a great pick if you want a more intimate wine tasting experience...it's unpretentious, friendly, and homey.
Envy Wines is a boutique winery, meaning that it produces small amounts of its wines (just 1500-1700 cases) that are available only at the winery. It is also an estate winery, meaning that all its wines are made from grapes grown on site instead of from vineyards scattered around the state of California. Their 11 acres provide the grapes for their limited varieties, all of which are excellent.
Tasting fees are reasonable at just $15 and are waived with a $30 bottle purchase.
