Johnny Meier's Classic Gas Museum on the High Road to Taos
It's a gas. On highway 68 - or 'the high road to Taos' - is a place you might miss if your eye weren't drawn to the old rusting chevrolet out front and the many antique gas pumps that stand idle and rusting in the late afternoon sun. All are savored and given pride of place in this amazing little museum open to all. Operating entirely on donations, Johnny takes care with each visitor, giving them a detailed history of the classic design of gas pumps and memorabilia, vintage oil cans, signage, neon, even going into the history of the graphic design from the 30s onwards. A fantastic place, run by a charming, knowledgeable man. Pull over and fill up!
