With its prime location on the banks of the River Thames, The Savoy makes an ideal base for getting to know the British capital. One way to start is by walking along the waterside Embankment promenade, ticking off both historic landmarks and new cultural icons as you go. Begin at Westminster, noting the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, before walking eastwards towards the London Eye Ferris wheel and Somerset House Gallery, right next to The Savoy. Continue past Millennium Bridge—which connects to the Tate Modern gallery and Shakespeare’s Globe theatre—until you reach Tower Bridge. Here, you can cross over to one of London’s newest landmarks, The Shard, a skyscraper complete with high-end dining and drinking spots and an observation deck. Time your riverside ramble from late afternoon through to sunset to witness London’s illuminated skyline in all its glory.
