Elounda Heights is a gem. I rented a studio apartment here for one week, intrigued by the large number of excellent ratings it received on the travel sites. Fans from the UK book their holiday here every year and have for, in some cases, decades. And I can see why.
Vangelis and his English wife Ann own and manage the complex, which includes apartments, a swimming pool with outdoor bar, and olive trees. The apartments are located at the top of a steep hill above the harbor town of Elounda, and the views are magnificent. The photo shows the view from my ground-floor studio apartment; the more expensive apartments have even better views.
But the hospitality is what sets Elounda Heights apart from other lodging options. Vangelis absolutely loves to cook, and he wows his guests each day, cooking breakfasts and lunches to order in a little hut by the pool. He sometimes plans multi-course dinners for special occasions; if it's offered during your stay, by all means pay for it and indulge. You won't find a better meal in town.
A really special offering is the Sunday boat trip. For an extra fee you can accompany Vangelis and a local boat captain on a leisurely trip that skirts the nearby coastline. Vangelis serves drinks and tasty appetizers, and the captain stops periodically to allow swimming in the coves. It's a great way to mingle with the other guests and get to know them.
Staying at Elounda Heights made my trip to Crete very special. I highly recommend it.
