Bali is a place of magic: the smells and sounds of the rain as it hits the rice paddies and fields of taro, the fragrant scent of burning incense and fresh flower offerings everywhere, and the smiles: it's the smiles of the people that stand out in my mind when I think of Bali. One of my favorite experiences from my recent trip on board the Azamara Quest was my visit to the Elephant Safari Park Lodge, in Ubud. A Land Discoveries expedition with Azamara, Ubud is somewhat centrally located in Bali and takes a couple of hours to reach from south Bali. All expectations were surpassed: the grounds were flawless, set on about 2 hectares of botanical gardens that have been designed and maintained with eco tourism at the core. The Park meets International Standards for care and is acclaimed as one of the best animal parks in the world. These are rescued elephants from Sumatra, and they are only trained by positive rewards and reinforcement. As a guest to the Park, you have the opportunity to get up close and personal and interact with the elephants, as well as take a 30 minute ride through the park atop an elephant, both on land and through water.
