Bali is a place of magic: the smell and sound of the rain as it hits the rice paddies and fields of taro, the smells of burning incense and fresh flower offerings everywhere, and the smiles: it's the smiles of the people that stand out in my mind when I think of Bali. One of my favorite experiences from my recent trip on board the Azamara Quest was my visit to the Elephant Safari Park Lodge, in Ubud. A Land Discoveries expedition with Azamara, Ubud is somewhat centrally located in Bali and took a couple of hours to reach. All expectations were surpassed: the grounds were flawless, set on about 2 hectares of botanical gardens, designed and maintained with eco tourism at the forefront. The Park meets International Standards for care and is acclaimed as one of the best animal parks in the world. These are rescued elephants from Sumatra, and are only trained through positive rewards. As a guest to the Park, you get to get up close and personal to interact with the elephants, as well as take a 30 minute ride through the park atop an elephant, the ride ending him going for a cool-off swim with you on its back.
