Runner Up - El Sanjuanino in Buenos Aires Recoletta district.
This place is top of every guide book and travel article for a reason, the empanadas are good, and the wine is served by the liter. They offer the 4 traditional flavors of empanadas including a fried option (for the truly decadent) but the Locro fell flat. There is always a line of egger tourists; eat like a local and get a dozen empanadas to go from the pick up counter.
Winner - The BEST Empanadas and Locro in Argentina.
The Empanadas are fluffy flavorful pockets of goodness are baked until golden brown and the perfect balance of crispy and gooey. 1810 offers 13 different fillings including spicy beef, chicken, blue cheese and caramelized onion, and specialties like A La Calabrasa.
Locro is a tradition pork and beef stew with white beans, red sausage and perfectly puréed pumpkin and at 1810 it's rich, flavorful and positively crave-able.
The restaurant is busy with Portenos (people from Buenos Aries) however the menu is available in English and there are three locations; Centro, Palermo and Belgrano.
