We spent Thanksgiving in Zapallar, Chile. As an alternative to our traditional turkey, we found a mouth melting dish called jardin de mariscos a la parmesana at El Chiringuito, a local restaurant on the harbor in Zapallar. El Chiringuito gets its seafood fresh from the local fisherman, who you can watch haul up their catches as you eat. The restaurant serves massive portions, so order accordingly. The aforementioned jardin de mariscos was a medley of fresh crab, scallops, fish, and mussels cooked in a broth and covered with a baked layer of parmesan cheese. The "a la parmesana" option is not listed on the menu for the jardin de mariscos, but they will gladly make it for you. We also ordered fried conger eel, which came in a gigantic portion nearly as big as my head. This is a great place to lunch after wandering along the 2-mile long ramblas path admiring the seaside houses and watching the waves come in along the beach.
