Tackle the East Rosebud Trail
The East Rosebud Trail – known by many as The Beaten Path – is one of Montana’s great hikes. The trail is 26-miles in length, but it’s not particularly arduous: hikers of solid experience and stamina can complete the entire circuit in a single day, though it is best enjoyed on a three-night expedition. There’s a good chance that you’ll encounter bald eagles in the sky above alpine lakes, lose count of how many waterfalls you skirt past, and fall in love with Slough Creek – a legendary cutthroat trout fishing hole. The East Rosebud Trail would be the kingpin of trail systems anyplace else on earth, but in the shadow of Yellowstone National Park, it has become something of a hidden gem, beloved by locals and played quite close to the vest.
