Escape the bustle of Fitzroy and Acland Streets and escape to the quieter side of St Kilda down Grey Street to Dr. Jekyll.
There’s no visible signage for the effortlessly cool cafe, the owners preferring to rely on word of mouth of locals who frequent the friendly and comfortable café where the onus is put on each visitor.
Breakfast is served all day. The scrambled eggs with house-cured ocean trout and chive crème fraiche are a favourite, but it’s the coffee that it’s most well known for.
Using Syndicate Coffee, 100% Arabica fair-trade beans, the coffee is sweet, smooth and full of fruity notes.
If you’re still hungry consider trying one of the homemade desserts – created by the mother of the owner. The Lemon Tart looks simple when plated but the tart offers that burst of zing from fresh lemon and just enough crumble in the pastry.
Visit during spring or summer to enjoy the sun bathed courtyard and communal seating, far enough from the bustle of the main streets but still walking distance to the beach and popular sites of St Kilda.
