Slick Business Hotel Has Every Amenity For Leisure Traveler
Here in the US. the DoubleTree by Hilton brand is usually centered around a business park and very likely a ghost town come the weekend. Not for this DoubleTree in Amsterdam. The DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station is a vital, chic, innovative hotspot of activity. It certainly hosts business clientele but also provides a home base to travelers-in-the-know. We got off a luxury river cruise and walked over. Staff is 24 hour and it is easy to have the concierge arrange a car for you for those early flights back home or simply walk across the street and into the Centraal Station and catch an express train to the airport.
Our room decor was a clean minimal style with a comfortable work desk and sweeping views of the canal and old town. Bicycles are available to rent if you wish to blend in with thousands of commuters. But the short walk to town and the buses that stop nearby can get you there in no time.
The City Cafe restaurant is where you'll enjoy a commodious breakfast buffet and at night it morphs into a top-notch steak house called Eastwood Beer and Grill. The transformation is quite remarkable, check it out. There are also Executive Level floors and amenities including the lounge with snacks, drinks and light noshes off the Lobby Bar. A unique favorite here is the "24 hour library"; a cooperative effort between the hotel and the nearby public library. The shelves of titles provide books available to read at any hour, with some in English.
One other notable spot is the SkyLounge located on the top floor. A lovely 360 degree viewpoint for a coffee or tea in the daytime, at night and on the weekends it is packed as it becomes Amsterdam's music living room. I love this hotel and you will too.
