Door County is one of those places that you go without a plan and just let the day unfold. Its waterfront villages, beaches & parks entice visitors back year after year. Driving the peninsula exploring the many villages discovering a new restaurant, gallery or vineyard leaves you feeling relaxed & refreshed. We began with a delicious breakfast of Door County Cherry Stuffed French Toast at the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek, a favorite among locals & visitors. Leaving the Inn we stumbled upon a wonderful painting competition. We watched as artists put brush to canvas to recreate the sites before them in a quick-paint competition that lasted just a few hours & was followed by an auction to benefit a local art school. From there we set off for one of the local vineyards for a wine tasting. What a fabulous experience to relax on a comfortable deck overlooking a beautiful vista with a delicious glass of wine. It's not a trip to Door County without stopping to pick cherries. We chose one of the many orchards, got our buckets and began to pick. In mere minutes our buckets were full of bright red cherries & we were on the road again. Without any particular plan we drove along & came across the most magnificent site of the day, a doe with her 2 delightful fawns playing in a field. Fortunately we had an unobstructed view of their lively interaction. Let’s face it, in travel you can research and plan all you like but it’s moments like this that ultimately make the trip one to remember.
