Discovery Bay Tourism Experience’s Historic Whaling Station (formerly Whaleworld) is located in the onetime Cheynes Beach Whaling Company, which ceased operations in 1978. The late date of the end of whaling in Australia may surprise some visitors, and the museum has been praised for how it handles this controversial chapter in the country’s history. After the last sperm whale was processed, workers simply walked out, leaving behind an intact factory. The museum includes an interactive presentation on whales and whaling as well as tours led by friendly and knowledgeable guides.
