A layover is never fun, especially if you're fighting jet lag and still hours away from home. As a frequent traveler for work, I transfer at least monthly in the Detroit airport (DTW). As airports go, this place has made some serious upgrades that make passing the time a little more tolerable.
The underground passageway featured in this photo connects Terminal A (main international arrivals/departures) with Terminals B&C. Every time I have been there (at least 20 this year!) the lighting is different. This photo wasn't enhanced - it's that cool down there!
As a vegetarian I often struggle to find healthy meat-free options for snacking. One of my all-time airport eateries is here - PB&J's (in Terminal A between Gates A6 & A8) serves old-school peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You choose the bread, the peanut butter, the jam, and have an option to add banana. Such a great find!
Finally, the mesmerizing water feature near gate A40 (just before the tunnel) is calming and stunning in its own right. Take the time to enjoy your walk through this airport and see how far DTW has come!
