Plucky charm
Firmdale’s kitsch-but-classy classic-meets-contemporary English elegance has landed in Manhattan. As you’d expect from anything Firmdale, as well as it dripping in Kit Kemp’s special blend of inspired fabrics, textured wallcoverings and colourful artworks, Crosby Street Hotel has a fabulous bar-restaurant. The socialising spills out of this chic space onto a patio on Lafayette Street as well as a central foliage-filled residents-only courtyard. And don’t think the fun stops there – downstairs in the basement event space, there’s even a zingy orange-leather Poltrona Frau-seated screening room. Downstairs in the basement, there’s a screening room available to hire whenever you fancy a private showing.

Boutique spa Haven on Mercer Street (+1 212 343 3515; www.havensoho.com) will take care of all your beauty needs – ask for Yasmin if it’s waxing you’re after, and we recommend Gabby for a flawless manicure and pedicure. Liberty Helicopters on West 30th Street and 12th Avenue (+1 212 967 6464) will whisk you around the Manhattan skyline and out to the Statue of Liberty. It also offers airport transfers.

Sweet dreams in Soho
Our stay at the Crosby Street hotel was the best we had in New York City. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome by friendly and attentive people who engaged in conversation because they really were interested. Beautifully decorated by the talented Kit Kemp, you wake up feeling that you are sleeping in a beautiful apartment rather than a hotel. The lounge and restaurant downstairs are gorgeous and the food and drinks are great. A candle on arrival, plush bedding and well thought through mini bar made this an unforgettable hotel experience which I hope to have again when I'm next in New York.

Design Lovers Unite: Crosby Street Hotel's Lobby
Crosby Street's hotel is the stuff design porn dreams are made of. It is the most gorgeous hotel lobby, I've ever set foot in and the day I was there, I practically had it to myself! When you walk in there are quite a few sculptures and then you go into the drawing room. Though the scheme is red, the designer and owner of the Crosby, Kit Kemp, has mixed and matched pink hues along side the red. There are quite a few couches and reading chairs. You have a waiter catering to your every whim and a serene courtyard in the back. I sat here for four hours and read. I could have stayed here all day.

Crosby Hotel for Afternoon Tea
This 86-room hotel on 11 floors boasts high ceilings and long, glorious windows, some with uniquely designed living rooms. It is perhaps the only hotel with its own Film Club and a screening room for film enthusiasts. Afternoon tea is served for ladies and gents, where passersby are certainly welcome. Guests revel in the quiet of a private garden and luxurious drawing room in Manhattan’s bustling SoHo neighborhood.
