Visit Crazy Horse Up Close
Two weekends a year, one in the spring and one in the fall, the annual Volksmarch is held, where visitors are allowed to hike to the worlds largest mountain carving in progress. The hike is an organized event, much like a 10k run, where an entrance form is completed, your progress is checked at several stations, supplied with food and water, and a completion stamp is awarded upon finishing. I first saw this monument in the early 1950s, shortly after the first blasting occurred. Much has been accomplished over the ensuing 60 years.
