While visiting Italy in May, my husband and I really enjoyed driving through Tuscany and Umbria and stopping at the many rustic hill towns dotting the regions. Cortona, the setting for Frances Mayes' novel "Under the Tuscan Sun," was one of our favorites. The town's rustic buildings were beautiful, painted in the classic Tuscan oranges, yellows and reds. The colors made the buildings so warm and inviting, and they practically glowed when the late afternoon sun hit them. I highly recommend a stop in charming Cortona on any trip through Tuscany.
