Before even getting close to the entrance of the Copan Maya ruins in the morning one hears the raucous calls of the macaws. The staff at the ruins feed the various birds in the area and even provide nesting boxes for the macaws. Did you know they nest underground? Me, either.
It was a wonderful greeting to see at least 15 or so of these incredible birds and hard to leave this area of noise and constant action to see what we were actually there to see: The fabulous ruins of Copan.
