Cook Islands Christian Church
If you happen to drop by the Cook Islands Christian Church in Avarua at 10 a.m. on a Sunday, you'll be welcomed to a service so filled with joyful singing it practically raises the red-shingled roof. Afterward, visitors are invited to stay for tea with the congregation; but the coral limestone church, which dates to 1853, is worth visiting anytime. Its cemetery contains the graves of Albert Henry, the first prime minister of the Cook Islands, and American-born author Robert Dean Frisbie, an early travel writer who died in the Cook Islands in 1948.
