Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site
The Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site was long a historic meeting and camping site for veterans of the Civil War and their families. From 1889 to 1946, the site hosted four-day reunion gatherings in mid-summer which were bookended at dusk and dawn by the firing of the Civil War cannon "Old Val Verde," still on display here. Today, the grounds (which are maintained by the Texas Historical Commission) frequently host historical reenactors as well as the annual Friends of the Confederate Reunion Grounds Civil War event, held on the third weekend of April every year.
