Just a short train ride from Milan lies the town of Como, on the southern end of beautiful Lago di Como. It is an easy day trip, and you can easily walk the compact city of Como after leaving the train station which is very close to the center of town. Less crowded in the fall and winter, you can feel like you have the town almost to yourself as you walk along the beautiful lake and look at the boats and houses spilling down the hills. Walk into town just a block away, and enjoy wandering the alleyways and visiting the small shops, cafés and restaurants. Spend all day, or just a few hours- and then head back to Milan on the train, rejuvenated and relaxed.
Tips- Often when Milan is foggy and gray- you can soak up some sunshine at Lago di Como- even for just a few hours it is a welcome treat! There is an all day market on Saturdays, with typical Italian household supplies, clothing, fresh produce and other food specialties.
