The City Bowl Market on Hope Street is not as glitzy or popular as some of the other amazing markets in the Cape Town area, but it was one of my favorite places to spend Saturdays while studying abroad. Local venders eagerly serve up a variety of tapas-sized dishes, all of which are beautifully displayed for your viewing pleasure.
My strategy was to first peruse the entire market before I made any decisions. This allowed me to assess the offerings and figure out how to maximize the number of dishes I could try. It was very difficult, however, to actually complete this preliminary round without stopping to sample and purchase dishes. Between pork dumplings, crispy falafel sandwiches, banana nutella crepes, and eggplant curry, there is something to satisfy every taste bud at the City Bowl Market.
Each week, I looked forward to the mouth-watering aromas that filled the air and the lively but laid back vibe. I hope I have the chance to go back and experience the recently expanded market hours during the work week in the near future.
