Medieval City of Rhodes
The medieval old town of Rhodes, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the best-preserved old quarters of any town in the world. Girded by a double ring of sandstone citadel walls built by the Crusaders, the maze of cobblestone alleys bustle with activity. These narrow lanes are not a hushed museum—though they contain historic temples and palaces, they also have lively markets, shops and houses.
