Rebuilding lives after an earthquake
A trip to Poas Volcano in Costa Rica took us through what looked like a new development of homes on the top of a mountain. Our guide encouraged us to step out and walk around the neighborhood. Turns out, this was the town christened "Nueva" Cinchona - and it was rebuilt through donations of a dollar each by every citizen of Costa Rica after the deadly earthquake of 2009 that destroyed the old town of Cinchona. The route to Poas is filled with delightful sights - waterfalls, birds, rolling hills and mountains - but this was the most heart-warming of them all.
