At the 27-acre North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial in Tunisia rest 2,841 of our military dead, their headstones set in straight lines. This is United States land, surrounded by the town of Carthage on the outskirts of Tunis. The memorial wall holds names of 3,724 missing. The grounds are immaculately kept, beautifully landscaped, quiet and peaceful despite the city setting. The battles of north Africa during WWII are shown on mosaic wall maps which are works of art in themselves. When on the way to the tourist mecca of Sidi Bou Said for shopping and restaurants stop by and honor our heroes. You wouldn't be visiting if they hadn't made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
