It was Sakura ( cherry blossom) season when I arrived in Tokyo. The city was alive with the beginnings of Hanami parties. I stayed with my Japanese friends a while, drinking sake and indulging in far to much sushi under the trees.
A few days later I left for the quietude I seek each time I come to Japan, in the countryside of Choshi, the center of Soya sauce. I had been so worried about my dear friends there after the tsunami & how close they were to the radiation ( 40min) Yet when I saw them, and the smiles that always greet me, i knew that such fortitude exists among this culture, and they would rebuild in time.
