At Chojiro, in central Kyoto, you don't have to worry about not knowing a word of Japanese when ordering your lunch. It's done on an iPad! Just tap the food that looks most delicious.
Despite all the talk about Japan being expensive, the sushi lunch I got here for 1500 yen (less than $20) included chawanmushi (egg custard with seafood and mushrooms), salad, miso soup AND dessert! Oh, and some of the tastiest sushi I had in Japan. Perfect.
