Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots
Located at the principal air base for kamikaze missions, the Peace Museum was built in 1975 to commemorate the pilots’ “patriotic efforts for peace.” The collection includes aircraft recovered from the sea, a re-creation of the hut where they spent their last nights and photos of each of the 1,036 young men who chose to die in what was considered the highest possible honor. Even if you don't opt for one of the English audio guides, the museum provides a moving experience about culture, war and humanity.
