Chinatown Food Complex
Chinatown Food Complex is located in the heart of Chinatown and has been a main staple in the Chinatown community for many years. The complex provides a collection of local dishes with cheap prices, such as carrot cake, char kway teow (which is basically fried noodles, Singaporean style), hainanese chicken rice - as well as desserts such as beancurd (made with soybeans), ice kachang (which is shaved ice with a variety of local syrups and condensed milk and sugar cane juice (which is normally freshly squeezed). Chinatown has changed over the years and is now home to the Chinatown Food Street (located on Smith Street) and other air-conditioned food courts that mainly cater to tourists. However, to truly experience Singaporean dishes, a visit to Chinatown Food Complex is a must, despite its aging interior and lack of airconditioning.
