Now and Zen
The Chinati Foundation's large-scale installations are located over 340 acres of land on this former army base. There are now 15 outdoor concrete, 100 aluminum works by the artist in two repurposed military sheds, 25 sculptures by John Chamberlain, a Dan Flavin installation that takes up six former army barracks, plus works by Carl Andre, Ingólfur Arnarsson, Roni Horn, Ilya Kabakov, Richard Long, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, David Rabinowitch, and John Wesley—who all get their own individual buildings. Because the grounds are so vast, the foundation can only be visited on full-day guided tours, which are split into two parts with a lunch break in between.
