The Chicago History Museum examines Chicago’s local history as well as its position in the larger scope of American history. The engaging exhibits cover a wide range of subjects such as Abraham Lincoln’s life and presidency, the first locomotive to operate in Chicago, the creation of the Miracle Mile, the city’s history of jazz and blues music and souvenirs from the World Fair in 1933. Exhibits are well designed so visitors can pass through superficially and glean little highlights about everything or spend several minutes reading informational materials and absorbing details. Parents with kids should check out the Children’s Gallery where they can catch baseballs and ride high wheel bicycles. The museum is open 7 days a week, admission is $14 for adults and kids under 12 get in free.
