Ask 10 Memphians their favorite barbecue restaurant and you're likely to get 10 unique recommendations. Downtown's Rendezvous restaurant, if it doesn't make the top choice, is often on everyones list.
The Greek-flavored, dry-rub ribs are the main reason, but plenty of other pork and chicken barbecue items, as well as sausage and cheese plates, are worth biting into. The mesmerizing goodness wafting from the restaurant, located in the alley across from the famous Peabody hotel, can be smelled from blocks away.
If you come on a weekend, make sure you have plenty of time to wait in the upstairs room with a pitcher of beer and sausage and cheese plate. The waits can be long but it's worth it for the atmosphere. Even the servers alone, many of whom have worked there for decades, make a night out at the Rendezvous a great experience. And if you can't make it to the restaurant, check out a baseball game at nearby AutoZone Park or event at FedExForum. Both venues sell Rendezvous products.
