Friendly Fox of Santa Cruz Island
We saw plenty of these Channel Island foxes during our day trip last summer. Once depleted by golden eagles, these beautiful, curious creatures have come back strong. They are native to the islands and found nowhere else on earth. The same can be said for man other species on and around the islands, an ecotourism paradise. This one posed for quite a few pictures. Later on he tried to help himself to some snacks from my son's pack. The only way out here is by boat. Stay on deck to get the best views up close of the playful marine animals like the bottlenose dolphin. They race the boat, leap in the air, and if feeding nearby, create quite a frenzy in the water. The lazy sea lions and harbor seals are not so frisky. They just sun themselves on the buoys and watch us silly humans snap our photos.
