A Wonderful Piece of Technology for Visitors and Locals
Traveling up and down the Central-Mid Levels Escalator is a quick, efficient way to get around while at the same time immersing yourself in the urban jungle of Hong Kong. Stretching for over 800m and rising about 135m, the world's longest outdoor covered escalator (actually a series of 20 escalators and 3 inclined moving walkways) links the Central District and the heights of the Mid-Levels residential areas. As you take the 20-minute trip going up (or down), you enjoy the opportunity to experience the contrast between the bustling streets of Central, with the city's oldest market district as well as the arts and antiques district, museums, bars, restaurants, and historic buildings to the more relaxed Mid-Levels atmosphere. From 6am to 10am, the escalator travels downward from Mid-Levels to Central for the commuters. After 10am, the escalator switches upward from Central to Mid-Levels until midnight.
