As me and a few Israeli friends were traveling thorough Tajikistan, we ended up in the Bartang Valley in the Pamirs. On the way back from a 3-day hiking trip in Geisev, we ended up getting lost trying to find the city. As luck would have it, a random jeep picked us up and dropped us off in a random village. Then, as if out of nowhere, a local farmer popped up, took us to his house, and fed us a feast of grapes, bread, mutton and endless tea for no reason. Wanting nothing other then to look after some tired travelers. We spent the whole night watching old wedding videos and dancing, and then we slept under the stars. I think after so much time feeling as a tourist the honor of feeling like a guest is something words can’t describe. I will never forget this family or their kindness; and I hope as we travel the world and more and more genuine experiences are had, we bring the gap between local and tourist closer together. So if you end up in Tajikistan, get lost in the Bartang - there are nothing but pleasant surprises waiting for you!
