At one time, the Caves House Hotel in Yallingup was the premier resort in Western Australia's wine country. Art Deco elements still remain in common rooms like the dining area and bar, which make it easy to imagine its heyday, helped by black and white photographs that extensively decorate the walls.
Still drawing crowds with its quintessentially Australian pub's "Sunday Sessions" series and its wedding business, it's a lively place for a stay or a meal on the right day. However, it has lost some of the luster it must have once had. Cramped rooms seem dated and in need of an update.
Still, a room with a balcony affords a view all the way to the crashing waves that draw surfers from all over the world and the chance to spot the beautiful gray and pink parrots that call Yallingup home.
Heritage-listed gardens are an ideal place to stroll with your love as the sun sets over the ocean and it's located well to take in wine country by day while you sleep at Caves House in the evening.
