When I visited Bran, Transylvania, Romania, obviously the folkloric Castle Bran was not to be missed. This castle has stood since the 14th century. Built by the Saxons of Kronstadt, the castle changed hands many times--much like the area of Romania itself. It is rumored that Bram Stoker used this as the prototype for Dracula's home, though the actual Vlad Dracul (Tepes) probably didn't have anything to do with the castle. The history is interesting enough though, as is the interior, loaded with antiques from the Romanian nobility and those that came before. The view from the top is also breathtaking.
