Casco Viejo

Of all the historic centers of Latin America, Panama City’s UNESCO-listed Casco Viejo is among the finest, with stunning churches and grand plazas. These days, the easily walkable, 17th-century walled district that juts into the sea is going through an exciting rebirth. Gorgeous old colonial mansions and homes now host trendy restaurants, new art galleries and music venues. The Moorish-style presidential palace here is named Palacio de las Garzas, for the herons found in its courtyard.
