A Different Kind of Cave Art
The ancient village of Les Baux sits atop a rocky plateau overlooking the Alpilles in Provence, France. The village is no longer active, but an attraction for tourists who want to see the ruins of the castle and the beautiful vistas. The most unusual thing to experience is the Carrieres de Lumieres (formerly the Cathedral d'Images). The site is a quarry where the locals used to extract limestone for the construction of a nearby chateau and Les Baux. Now huge images of works of art are projected onto the walls, ceiling and floors accompanied by music. Upcoming events include Monet, Renoir and Chagall.
