Paddle-in Camping in Algonquin Provincial Park
In September, we parked our Harley overnight at the Portage Store Outfitters on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park and paddled/portaged our way for five hours to a remote campsite in the Park's interior. The outfitting (and customer) service was wonderful: all supplies from canoe to cookstove provided for a bargain, complete with patient instruction for the novice paddle-in camper unfamiliar with the term "bear barrel!" Our site on Burnt Island Lake faced Caroline Island, home to a pair of loons who called to each other long after sunset, their haunting song echoing across the lake and around the campfire.
