Walking through Palermo you get the feeling that much hasn't changed in the last hundred years or so. That is especially true at the Capuchin Catacombs. The catacombs contain skeletons and mumified bodies of various citizens of Palermo. The earliest go back to the 1500s, the last was in 1920. The mumification process was so unique and advanced that some of the mummies look as if they are simply asleep. The bodies of small children may creep some people out, but they are extraordinarily well preserved.
