Capsis Hotel: Value Hotel Near the Heart of Thessaloniki
Greece is certainly a travel value these days. And leaving big-city Athens to explore the many beautiful places of Greece is really how to stretch your travel dollars even further.
Think about traveling around Halkidiki. The city-folk of Thessaloniki think of Halkidiki as their own beach getaway and many have second homes and seaside bungalows along the beautiful coasts there.
But start in Greece's second largest city Thessanoliki and spend a few days learning about this lovely city that claims the philosopher Aristotle as their own; he was born 55 km away. It has named the famous town square after him, is littered with ruins, has fantastic restaurants, a famous market and accommodations for every budget.
One recommended hotel, Capsis, is geared toward great value for the traveler, although listed as a 4-star by hotel association. Many conventions and meetings are held here as they boast the largest meeting spaces in the city. You'll meet many Greeks staying here too. A large breakfast buffet comes with your room nite. Some rooms are modern but as of this writing most are like a guest room in your Aunt's house. Large, comfortable, clean, with modern baths and are perfectly fine. The staff is very friendly and accommodating in this family-owned hotel.
Bonus: the bar downstairs is open all day where you can grab a steaming bowl of homemade Avgolemono soup-with chicken and rice, it's perfect to ward off trans-Atlantic jet-lag. Just like your Greek aunt's.
