Ever wonder where flamingos get their pink color? Their diet has a lot to do with their coloring. Typically they get pink or orange coloring from a diet rich in alpha and beta carotenoid pigments.
When visiting the Cango Wildlife Ranch in South Africa, I came upon this flamingo drinking his share of the pink stuff. Viewing the flamingos was just one of the attractions at the Wildlife Ranch. Located between Capetown and Port Elizabeth in the town of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, the Cango Wildlife Ranch is home to many animals. There are reptiles, birds, farm animals, and also tigers, white lions, cheetahs, and many more animals. The Ranch also is famous for its animal encounters, where you can get up close with many of the animals, including the cheetahs.
The Ranch has a website....www.cango.co.za. You can learn much more about the animals, encounter programs and fees by checking all that the website has to offer.
While most visitors to South Africa wish to see exotic species in the wild, I found this attraction to be a nice complement to the typical safari experiences in South Africa. I especially enjoyed seeing the baby tigers, white lions and cheetahs up close.
