Venice is one of my favorite places that I don't think I ever want to revisit. To go again might destroy the perfect memory of my magical visit. I went in the winter just after it had flooded and the city was almost void of tourist. We had Piazza San Marco almost all to ourselves. I recommend getting lost and wandering through the small alleys and canals. It was foggy when we were there and in the evening the city seemed like a stage for "The Phantom of the Opera".
A must visit while in Venice is Italy's oldest cafe, Caffe Florian located in Piazza San Marco, which opened in 1720. It's the type of place that is worth paying a little extra for the exquisite ambiance and impeccable service. I have a wonderful memory of being there in the winter enjoying a delicious hot chocolate spiked with a liquor. On that cold foggy day the Caffe Florian was the perfect refuge for a hot drink.
