My son and I were definitely the odd ones out. But isn't that often the case when you are really willing to immerse yourself in the lives and culture of the places you travel? That's more than half of the excitement and intrigue of travel for me.
While we were the curiosity as the only two white faces on the bus as we travelled to more remote areas of India, we soon became just part of the mass of travelers on the typically crowded bus. Apparently we gained trust. Before long a baby was handed to us to hold, freeing up mama's hands to hang on to the bar for a safer ride over rutted roads.
