Bundala National Park

Just east of Hambantota, Bundala National Park is a far smaller, far closer alternative to the sprawling Yala and Uda Walawe parks. Within the 20-kilometer (12-mile) swath of coastline, scrubby jungle, salt flats and coastal dunes, there are painted storks, spot-billed pelicans and flocks of flamingos, as well as elephants, crocodiles, jackals and monkeys. Binoculars are a must for avid birders.
