Flying a DC3 that was part of the D-Day Invasion
What a thrill we had when we boarded the Buffalo Airways DC3 in Yellowknife for a trip across Great Slave Lake to Hay River in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Flying with Buffalo Joe of The Ice Pilots fame for the evening ride home was a grand experience. The landing was the smoothest ever. It was like flying in the 1960s before 2 hour check ins and waiting long periods of time in security lines. I never felt safer. After our one week stay with our Friendship Force hosts in Hay River we boarded for our return to Yellowknife where Peter Magill, Buffalo's Manager of Promotions, gave us a tour of the hangar and a description of their multiple planes, the work they do delivering supplies to remote areas of the frozen north, and putting out forest fires.
