Brown Hart Gardens, an oasis in the heart of London's urban wilderness
Exit out of Bond Street underground station and find yourself caught in the tide of London's commercial centre. Embark on a suspenseful balancing act for your coffee cup as you weave through the swarms of fast-paced locals and meandering bag-toters. Verge away from this throbbing artery and turn into one of Mayfair's quieter residential vessels. Only a couple of minutes away, at the top of some misplaced sandstone steps, lies Brown Hart Gardens. A humble square of zen oblivious to its surrounds, complete with a Benugo's cafe, modern planting, benches, a water feature and your personal space restored. From memory, the gates close to the public at 8pm. My favourite time to visit is just before this, after cafe hours, where you may be lucky enough to have it all to yourself, alongside your favourite book, playlist or person; a Londoner's perfect twilight escape.
