Brooklyn Museum
The Beaux Arts beauty sitting on Eastern Parkway might seem to hint that inside its doors, visitors will find a collection that's heavy on the European classics, but not so: the permanent collection and temporary exhibits at the Brooklyn Museum are as diverse as the neighborhood in which it's located. While it does have some stunning European works, its collection's real strength is African and contemporary work, as well as those housed within its center for feminist art. Well-connected to trains and in a vibrant neighborhood, the Brooklyn Museum can be visited in a morning or afternoon, followed or preceded by a stop at some other local favorites, including the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
